The Battle of Ideas take place in Britain this weekend (as far as Miss Mussel can tell) and is a truly fascinating concept. It’s aims are “to showcase new arguments about the core issues of the day, while avoiding getting bogged down in the minutiae of everyday policy” and “to initiate open-ended discussions regardless of the demands for immediate practical outcomes, which too frequently act as a brake on innovative thinking.”
The subjects covered are in some ways inevitable but in others quite innovative. In general terms, the Festival is a giant thrash-out of issues in every discipline and it is quite refreshing to hear what those in-the-know have to say when not restricted by current government policy or their job role.
Miss Mussel will be providing excerpts of several excellent essays over the next few days. If you don’t fancy waiting, have a look for yourself.
