Friday Links

Several things that need to be read and commented upon but sadly paid deadlines are looming. For now, a list. Further expansion scheduled for next week. Maybe.

  • Eat Your Words: Free Rice via Matthew Guerrieri. While away the remaining hours of your Friday by testing your vocabulary. It’s for charity, so no one can get you in trouble unless the WANT poor children to starve to death.
  • Do Artists [Musicians] really need PhDs? Short answer: No.
  • Jeremy Denk continues his Thought Experiment about Brahms G major violin sonata. This is a piece Miss Mussel knows very well and its nice to be able fully appreciate the depth of Mr Denk’s insight.
  • Sholto Byrnes has an article in the New Statesman on the relationship between visual art and music.
  • Finally, if you really want to creep out your work colleagues, have a listen to the Mass for Oscillator and Tape by Cliff Swank. It lasts for about an hour.

So far, highlights include a voice saying something like “Aztec Egyptians are arriving from Norway. They have been varnishing their woodwork for 44 centuries.” and “Teach me to love so I can learn how to kill”

  • It sure beats Celine Dion. [via The Rambler]
