Time is practicing its disappearing act in earnest today. Here is an assortment of pieces that are languishing in the “comment on in future” pile
The Price of Prodigy “Rejecting a place at the Yehudi Menuhin School, Chloë [Hanslip] opted to travel to wherever the itinerant [zakhar] Bron was teaching, often staying in a small rented flat in Lübeck with her mother, Averil. The Hanslips had to remortgage their house and plunder their savings to meet the bills.”- Mark Geelhoed over at Deceptively Simple offers a chance to come clean about which recordings we’ve always meant to listen to but never quite got around to.
- The Met is offering opera performances in HD on Pay-Per-View. It will join such illustrious colleagues as WWE: Survivor Series, King of the Cage: Arch Rivals and I’m Going To Kick Your Ass. The broadcasts will feature backstage interviews of the artists. Not sure about you but Miss Mussel would defintely fork over $50 to see Georghiu, Netrebko et al. trash talking WWE-style before going on stage. $25 more if the director can work in gratuitous use of folding metal chairs.
- Tim Rutherford Johnson provides a link to a video of the Vegetable Orchestra before their gig at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. (more information here)
