- Bernard Holland has an excellent piece in the NYTimes on audience behaviour in centuries past. It doubles as a sort of review of Kenneth Hamilton’s book on the same subject After The Golden Age, the premise of which is: if music is to go back to original instruments and original performance practices, it has to acknowledge original audiences too.
- UK violinist Tasmin Little is releasing her new album as a free download. The album features spoken introductions to the pieces and an explanation of their musical features. Is Little taking one for the team here and providing a loss leader for classical music as a whole a good idea or potentially damaging in the long term? More on this at the OM in the coming days.
