Video: Alex Ross on Colbert

Well, at least a link to the video. For reasons that still baffle Miss Mussel’s not insubstantial technical brain, embedding from a variety of sources has simply refused to work. So, for perhaps the first time in the history of the world, it’s viola to the rescue. If that doesn’t work, try this.

Highlights of the chat occur at 2:12 and 3:30.

#1
Our Man Alex: “…Copland was a very left wing guy who sort of flirted with communism, so that wasn’t…”
Monsieur Colbert: Flirted with communism?
OMA: Yes
MC: What are you implying?
OMA: Well he didn’t go all the way. [Zing!]
MC: Just under the shirt, over the bra with communism.
OMA: Only first base, yeah.

#2
OMA: We think of classical music as something very stuffy…
MC But American classical music is the greatest classical music right, because American music is the best music.
OMA ummm….often, that is the case…
MC Always. Always. Like I don’t like jazz. I call it squeedle-dee music, but it’s an American art form, so it has to be the greatest. I don’t like the blues. [Bar darr dar daarrn] I get it, your woman done you wrong but it’s an American art form, so it has to be the best. Same thing with barbershop quartet. Do you have any barbershop quartet in here? [points to book]

Hearty congrats to Alex. Music nerds around the world are now officially 8.4% cooler.
