It’s the first long weekend of the summer in Ontario and people are busy opening pools and cottages, planting gardens and enjoying the few weeks remaining until the lawn turns brown. Never one to let down her loyal readers, she had selected a seasonally appropriate song for this week. Others will follow along with the clues on Tues and Weds. We’ve had several opera selections on the OM Quiz, but not much lieder.

Have a listen and send in your thoughts on the composer, name of piece and date of composition. Any factoids/anecdotes you wish to share will be welcomed with open arms. Special points given if you can guess the performer.

All those who write in with the correct answer by midnight (GMT-5) Weds will have their name placed in the official OM Seed Corn Hat. The person whose name is removed from the hat first will receive a chance to choose the piece for a forthcoming quiz, a $20 gift certificate for Arkiv music or a completely made-up prize.
