The Omniscient Mussel

Gravatars

|

You may have noticed that the new OM design includes gravatars in the comments. For those that aren’t on top of these things, a gravatar is simply an image linked to your email address, so every time you leave a comment, the image shows up to visually identify you.

Pointless? Mostly, but it would be interesting to see what you all look like. You are not obliged to put up an actual photograph if you don’t fancy it. Many people post a more abstract image or even a cartoon version of themselves. It’s quite a popular feature on blogs in other fields, but hasn’t seemed to have caught on too much in our corner of the universe. Then again, Miss Mussel reads almost exclusively from a feedreader, so being way off base is a distinct possibility.

All the cool kids are doing it, so obviously the right thing to do is cave to peer pressure and head over to gravatar.com. It takes about 30 seconds to sign up and you don’t need to create an account.
