Of course, we in the classical music world are, as per usual, light years ahead of every other genre in this endeavour. The perfect song was created in 1808. It’s name? Symphony No.5 in C major Op 67..
We have had 200 years to see the how the “second place” effect explored by T-Rex and Utahraptor works in real life. Utahraptor was particularly insightful with his idea that we would see “a lot of esoteric music exploring the areas that aren’t in the number one song.” That’s exactly what happened.
It hasn’t been pretty in places, but we’re recovering.
