Wednesday Links: Looking Good Edition
The OM has just passed the 500 post milestone. It took 15 months but we made it. Sometimes the going has been tough and Miss Mussel has toyed with packing it in but most days, the site has been a delight due in no small part to your participation. If everything continues this month on the course it is currently taking, the OM will see its 50,000th unique visitor.
Without context it is difficult to know what that means exactly however it’s still pretty damn cool considering Miss Mussel is, for all intents and purposes, a random person from a country that is not really a major player on the international scene. Except for hockey. And seal hunting. And maple syrup.
Here’s what’s interesting in the classical music world so far this week:
- Mozart has been recruited to sell condoms. Miss Mussel is certain that he would find that a much more entertaining use of his celebrity than all those stupid chocolates.
- Condi plays a Brahms piano quintet for The Queen. The Times reports that she was backed by three members of the LSO and the wife of David Miliband, the UK Foreign Secretary. Billed rather amusingly in the news as a piano recital, the concert appeared to be a diplomatic version of those vanity orchestra schemes Rice even got a recording at the end of the session.
- It’s not all bad for the dance scene in Canada. Despite BC Ballet’s recent troubles, other dance companies across the country are doing ok.
Those Mozart condoms are perfect for staying safe after getting trashed on Beethoven brandy
