Hay una version por el Abegg Trio (Tacet), que desgraciadamente no he escuchado. Ellos tambien han grabado el trio en la mayor atribuido a Brahms, que conozco a traves de la grabacion hecha por el Beau Arts Trio hace mucho tiempo.

Thanks for your reply. My musical education is rather limited, you understand, so perhaps I shouldn’t comment on these matters. But for me, if these repeats are cut, they seriously lessen the work as a whole. I think the first movement is a grand thing, one of the best things that Brahms ever did. It needs some time, so I wouldn’t cut it. And cutting the second movement, IMO, leaves it unbalanced. In other words, I wouldn’t cut these repeats.

@Seneca the Duck: what they took out are the repeats – which is, depending on your aesthetic, can be omitted.

The Gould Trio have a recording on the Quartz label of the original version as part of a 3-CD set that includes the revised version and all of Brahms’ other trios. I can highly recommend this recording.

I myself have a question. I have a recording of this trio by the Beaux Arts Trio on the Phillips label that cuts out portions of the first and second movements, cuts that total 5 1/2 to 6 minutes. And I believe that the Beaux Arts Trio are not the only ones who play a shortened version of the revised version. Can anyone say why they do this? Why would a group simply cut portions of a composer’s work, especially a composer of Brahms’ stature? Did Brahms himself authorize this? I’d appreciate it if anyone has any information on this.
