national-arts-centre-ottawa-logo There have been quite a few items of interest making their way to the OM Inbox from the nation’s capital of late. If you’re in the Ottawa area or travelling that way over the next few weeks, the following may be of interest.

  • “Conversations With Lev,” an exhibit of 19 photographs taken by NAC violinist Lev Berenshteyn is on display in foyer of Southam Hall. Berehshteyn has been with the orchestra since 1984 but over the last four years has been developing his skills with a camera as well. The images are portraits of visiting artists, musicians of the orchestra, NAC staff, and members of the Ottawa music community collected over the last year.

    The exhibition will be on display for the winter. According to this guy, that could very well mean July.

  • Applications are now being accepted for the National Arts Centre Orchestra 2009 Bursary Competition. There is $18750 in prize money available to residents of the National Capital Region between the ages of 16 and 24 that are heading down the to becoming an orchestral musician. Individual prizes range from $1000-$7000. Application deadline is 15th March @ 5pm Click for further details and application materials.
  • James Ehnes, Radu Lupu, Sarah Chang, Marc Neikrug and Yefim Bronfman are all visiting over the next 6 weeks. [full schedule here] Tickets range from $16.50-$66.50 with half price rush seats available for adults and students two hours before curtain. LiveRush tickets are $10 each.
