Back From The Mall Links
Black Friday doesn’t exist in Canada, so the idea of getting queuing up at 5:30 to take advantage of MEGA SUPER SALES is very strange. Buying Christmas presents so far ahead of the day is also a foreign concept here at OM headquarters but that is neither here nor there.
What is here and….ummm….there, are fresh links.
- Regulars in Miss Mussel’s kitchen are Simple Vegetarian Classics and The Crank’s Bible but sumptuously illustrated rivals have certainly caught her eye on occasion. Why do we buy cookbooks we know we’ll never use?
- The socio-cultural history of the piano in 19th century England. It could a thesis but in this case it’s Mr Langshaw’s Square Piano. Apparently, it’s a really good read.
- Is money the root of all happiness? It sure doesn’t hurt.
- An improbably alliance: Afro-Judeo relations in the early 20th century. Or Satchmo and the Jews
- If you’ve still got a turkey dinner to go this weekend, why not start some polite, non-confrontational dinner conversation using facts you have gleaned from the Corruption Perceptions Index.
- Finally, if all this reading is just too much after a day at the mall, try AutocompleteMe.com and OddlySpecific.com.
Enjoy!

The idea of getting up at 5:30 to take advantage of MEGA SUPER SALES is far from foreign to Canadians. We just do it on Boxing Day, the first shopping day after Christmas, to use up the gift cards received from friends and relatives uncertain of what to buy yet feeling obligated to give something more personal than cash.
You’re right. I’m not sure what I was thinking here. I never go out to the sales on Boxing Day, so it doesn’t register so much with me but that certainly doesn’t mean the custom doesn’t exist. Thanks for your comment and I hope to see you round these parts again.
