Saturday Links
It’s a bright, sunshine-y day out there. Go take a walk or something.
- The Liverpool Phil is at the beginning of thinking about the possibility of building a new hall. The old one sounds reasonable enough but has the feel of a 1930s high school auditorium. Another impetus behind the change is that there isn’t enough space for the patrons to drink at the interval. Oh Liverpool.
- The Auteurs is hosting a small documentary film festival. Viewing is free after a 5-second registration. Popcorn not included
- Christopher Hitchens has a go a rejigging the ten commandments. The results are not altogether horrible although the man does need someone to teach him how to use a comb.
- Going whole hog at pork camp. Yummers.
- Jan Swafford takes us to a piano museum in Massachusetts. The piece includes audio samples so full of character they make Steinway sound like a fast food restaurant. True story.
- The always delightful Intermezzo brings news of a fabulous new-to-Miss-Mussel blog from tenor Andrew Richards who is currently doing a Calixto Bieito Parsifal in Stuttgart. Favourite entry so far is a note to Richards’ mother. “Your son managed to make it thru the staging rehearsal of the “Love” Duet scene of Parsifal Act 2 without public nudity. Shirt’s off, but pants stay on. Thought you’d like to know….”
