My osn is sixteen years old and has been working with a voice coach for many years
He seems to have ability in singing classical music
Are there auditions ever for children/teens?
The COC Chorus is a professional chorus, so they only take adults. There is a children’s chorus but as far as I know it is just for trebles. I’m guessing at 16, your son is no longer a soprano.
The best idea is for him to join a very good choir and get a very good teacher that will not push him to sing things his voice isn’t ready for.
If he is interested in singing classical music, it is a long haul, especially for men as their voices take a long time to mature fully. (like up to 35 years old)
In the meantime, going to university for music is a good way to learn the fundamentals and to get additional voice training.
Maybe send a message to the Mendelssohn Choir asking for some suggestions as to what your next choir-related steps should be. I’m afraid I don’t know enough about GTA choirs to recommend further.
Also, check out the Ontario Youth Choir.
Hope that helps!
