In Dulci Jubilo
It has become a tradition here on the OM to post the complete Mass for Christmas Morning by Michael Praetorius on….uh…Christmas morning. Technically, it’s not all his composition but rather Paul McCreesh’s recreation of a Christmas morning church service in what would have been an extremely wealthy parish in Germany around 1620 complete with congregational singing.
This hymn, In Dulci Jubilo is the finale and one of the few pieces in all of music ever that deserves the adjective glorious. Miss Mussel has listened to this is a hundred times and still the final flourish sparkles brightly enough to singe her eyebrows slightly.
So, just in case you were still on the edge, it is definitely worth taking the time to airtunes this to the big stereo or get out the monster headphones. People, there are sackbuts. It’s insane.
Be sure to check back for the rest on the 25th!
Frere Mussel is back on the calendar starting tomorrow. Way hay!
