Day 12: Holiday for Strings

This performance by the William Schuman Singers is perfect accompaniment those last few minutes of manic cleaning and kitchen prep before the guests arrive. Or anyone wanting to indulge in 1950s housewife domestic fantasies wherein you vacuum in a party dress with a thousand watt smile plastered on your face and a not a single hair out of place.

Glamorous panicking? Is that a thing? IT IS NOW…

Here’s the original dance number with Cyd Charisse. The tempo is little slower, but the fluttering dresses make it feel just as urgent.

The original, btw, is a pretty clear appropriation of/homage to Strauss’ Pizzicato for Strings. I see you, David Rose….
